Sweet little bride, wake up
The wedding is there
With earths rivers
As ribbons in your hair
(fragment of Blood Wedding by F.G.Lorca)
Blood wedding, in 1993 poetically written by the Spanisch writer Federico Garcia Lorca, is a tragedy.
Two young people decide to marry each other. However, the fiancée is still in love with Leonardo, her previous lover. At the wedding party she still decides to follow her heart.
Blood wedding is about the ever so old dilemma "passie contra rede".
In other words: do you follow your heart or your head?
But it's also about murder in the name of family honour, which makes Blood Wedding still an up to date piece.
