The sage Tomcat
The playwright Herman Heijermans based De Wijze Kater (The Sage Tomcat, 1917) on the classic tale of Puss-in-boots.
This wicked fairy tale will be celebrated in song and colourful outfits by the complete line-up of Maatwerk Theatre.
The story tells the tale of sweet dunce Jonathan. In dire straits out of the goodness of his heart, he finds himself penniless, without friends and out of milk for his loyal cat.
Happily, he finds a job at the king's court.
The monarch, however, is close to breakdown due to an infestation of vermin at the palace.
Jonathan's clever cat soon deduces that the king is being foiled by the members of his own court.
The cat gets really annoyed by the cloak-and-dagger and decides to offer his services as senior pest control.
Turmoil ensues...
The inhumanities of humankind are wittily exposed in De Wijze Kater.
